One of the things I loved most about the house we bought last year was the loft space. This bright and open space was the area I would call my studio. I decided that over Spring Break I would finally start decorating this space to really make it my own. The first project to tackle was the furniture.
This chair belonged to my husband's grandparents and were handed down to us about 13 years ago. There were 6 matching chairs and this one, the runt. I have always adored this chair, it is small, different from the others and now the perfect chair to go with my desk.
As you can see I painted the chair white, the fabric to recover the seat was a challenge. I couldn't decide on a color or pattern until I came across this "create" piece of fabric. Can you say perfect! I found this material at JoAnn Fabrics and it is simply a 27" square called "Square by Design". I LOVE it!
Next my desk, which I have had for about 15 years. While I love the cherry stain it was all scratched up and worn and really needed a makeover. The dresser I had when I was a little girl and while I loved the green trim, it was also very worn and chipped and needed new knobs. Everything was going white!
I sanded everything down and painted 3 coats of satin paint on each, ending with a coat of clear finishing wax. I added new silver knobs to the dresser and I couldn't be happier with the results.
Having all of my furniture white makes the room look bigger and less cluttered. I can't wait to start working on the artwork for the full wall behind these pieces. That will be covered in Part 2, coming soon!
